About the Role

As SEO Manager, you will work closely with the SEO Content Director and the rest of the content team to develop, enhance, and coordinate effective SEO content planning strategies across existing and future sites within the Black & White Zebra portfolio with the goal of delivering significant traffic growth. 

 

This is a combination role requiring a blend of organic search growth, understanding of technical SEO, and on/off-page SEO skills, as well as strategic and hands-on executional activity.

 

You will live and breathe performance data and analytics, serving as the go-to authority on all things SEO for the company while offering guidance and assistance on SEO best practices and tactics for the content team accordingly.

 

You’ll play a critical role in optimizing the content backlogs for our websites through keyword research and SEO analysis while keeping a steady eye on organic traffic performance across all sites, stepping in as needed to optimize underperforming content. 

 

On any given day you may be helping to guide the team on keyword research, implementing fixes to improve technical SEO, creating custom data reports to glean specific insights, auditing and improving underperforming pages, managing link-building efforts, and more.

You will bring your advanced SEO skills to help uplift and optimize our content as it’s developed, with the end goal of significantly increasing organic traffic to our awesome content that helps people succeed in their work.

You're a great fit if you...

Have deep experience in both the human and technical side of SEO — You know exactly how to create a piece of content that will rank at the top of SERPs. You have years of experience working with organic ranking factors beyond the on-page and article-level levers—you’ve gotten your hands into a range of experiments across areas like UX, content testing, link building, and pagination. You’ve got experience with large-scale, site-wide traffic experiments that have both totally failed and totally succeeded.

 

Are a master of search data, both on and off page — Data and analytics are your first language, and you know how to clearly communicate your insights in a way that empowers the content team to improve and iterate to achieve quick wins and long-beneficial domain and brand referrals. You have proven experience building and executing strong backlink strategies that increase domain authority.

 

Are deeply curious and have a thirst for knowledge — While you may know a little bit about a lot of different things, you are always eager to learn more and take the necessary steps to familiarize yourself with niche topics and industries. You thrive in the latest algorithm updates and have a back pocket of SEO influencers you follow with zeal.

Must-haves

  • 5+ years of experience as SEO Manager, Strategist, or similar role
  • 3+ years of experience leading successful SEO editorial strategy
  • Proven success in driving significant organic traffic growth and achieving ambitious goals
  • Deep knowledge of web analytics, and an exceptional ability to deliver actionable insights
  • Experience in building backlinks and developing relationships for domain referrals
  • A basic understanding of search engine marketing (SEM) tactics
  • Command of relevant SEO tools (e.g., Ahrefs, SEMrush, Clearscope, GA, GSC, etc.)
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills
  • Problem-solving mindset
  • Excellent attention to detail and highly organized
  • Self-motivated and self-starter

Success will look like...

  • Significantly increasing organic traffic to existing and new sites through best-in-class SEO strategies and guiding the team on best practices
  • Stewarding new content plans to help deliver on traffic goals; providing advice, approval, and insights as needed
  • Assisting in the development of our multi-lang content strategy
  • Upskilling the team on optimization efforts to ensure existing content is upgraded for SEO appropriately when necessary
  • Managing and growing our backlink and off-page SEO strategy
  • Remaining unflappable through algorithm changes and unexpected traffic dips with a solution-oriented approach
  • Staying abreast of industry trends and changes to ensure we’re updating our practices accordingly
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders across the organization to identify opportunities and address challenges
  • A great attitude and convivial nature

Nice to haves

  • Experience educating team members on SEO tactics and strategy
  • Experience in multi-language and global SEO tactics
  • Experience with technical SEO, including web development and multisite configurations
  • Certifications in SEO practices, preferably from reputable organizations
