As SEO Director, you will work closely with the Managing Editor and the rest of the content team to develop, enhance, and coordinate effective SEO content strategies across existing and future sites within the Black & White Zebra portfolio to significantly grow traffic and domain authority.
This role balances responsibilities across the organization, such as:
You will live and breathe search performance data and analytics, serving as the go-to authority on all things SEO for the company while offering guidance and assistance on SEO best practices and tactics for the content team accordingly.
You’ll play a critical role in optimizing the content strategies for our publications through keyword research and SEO analysis while keeping a steady eye on organic traffic performance across all sites, stepping in as needed to optimize underperforming content.
On any given day, you may be helping to guide the team on keyword research, implementing fixes to improve technical SEO, creating custom data reports to glean specific insights, auditing and improving underperforming pages, managing link-building efforts, and more.
You will bring your advanced SEO skills to help uplift and optimize our content as it’s developed, with the goal of significantly increasing organic traffic to our awesome content that helps people succeed in their work.
Maintain a growing mastery of SEO tactics— You live and breathe SEO. You’ve worked with advanced SEO tools and services like Ahrefs, SEMRush, SEO Clarity to rapidly scale organic traffic growth and performance. You endeavor to build and maintain relationships with high-quality domains to expand referral opportunities. You intimately execute SEO tactics from all methodologies without compromising domain integrity.
Have deep experience in both the human and technical side of SEO — You know exactly how to create a piece of content that will rank at the top of SERPs. You have years of experience working with organic ranking factors beyond the on-page and article-level levers—you’ve gotten your hands into a range of SEO experiments across areas like UX, technical SEO, content testing, link building, and pagination. You’ve got experience with large-scale, site-wide traffic experiments that have both totally failed and totally succeeded.
A disciple of search data, both on and off page — Data and analytics are your first language, and you know how to clearly communicate your insights in a way that empowers the content team to improve and iterate to achieve quick wins and long-beneficial domain and brand referrals. You have proven experience building and executing strong backlink strategies that increase domain authority.
Are deeply curious and have a thirst for knowledge — While you may know a little bit about a lot of different things, you are always eager to learn more and take the necessary steps to familiarize yourself with niche topics and industries. You thrive in the latest algorithm updates and have a back pocket of SEO influencers you follow with zeal.
